On Saturday, March 14, 2026, the Roslyn Landmark Society hosted Legendary Women of the Gilded Age - a special Women’s History Month program featuring author and historian Monica Randall, who brought the world of Long Island’s Gilded Age vividly to life. In her engaging presentation, Randall explored the influential women of the era, including Katherine Mackay, who famously entertained high society at Harbor Hill in Roslyn Harbor - including a lavish event honoring the Prince of Wales. During the presentation, Ms. Randall showed the audience the gold Tiffany bow brooch that was gifted to the women attending the party.
Through rich storytelling and historical insight, the talk highlighted the power, presence, and lasting impact of these remarkable women.
The program also underscored the importance of preserving this legacy today. The Society’s ongoing restoration of the Harbor Hill gatehouse — one of the last surviving remnants of the once-grand estate — connects directly to the stories shared in the presentation. Together, the event and the preservation work reflect a continued commitment to honoring and safeguarding the history of Long Island’s Gold Coast for future generations.
