2 Long Island School Districts in Nation’s Top 4, 6 in Top 13: Report
By CHRIS BOYLE November 27, 2023According to a new report release this week by TeachSimple, 2 Long Island school districts are ranked among the top 4 in the entire nation, and 6 are within the top 13, a prestigious honor that reflects upon the overall quality of education in the region.
TeachSimple’s rankings are based on a number of diverse factors, including U.S. Department of Education statistics, information submitted from schools, and reviews submitted from both students and parents as to the pros and cons of their respective learning institutions.
Among the categories being ranked by TeachSimple, schools could score on a scale of 1 (lowest) to 5 (best).
The Roslyn Union-Free School District came in at number three on the TeachSimple rankings, with its high proficiency in reading and math, low student-to-teacher ratio (13-to-1), and high average financial expense per student ($32,874) being the deciding factors.
The Hewlett-Woodmere School District ranked at number four nationally due to its extensive free or reduced-price lunch program, high average spending per student ($41,507) and low teacher/student ratio (12-to-1).
Other Long Island schools rounding out TeachSimple’s top 13 include: Great Neck (sixth place), Syosset (tied for eighth place), Half Hollow Hills (11th place), and Jericho (tied for 12th place).
