Daguerreotype was the first publicly available photographic process used widely in the 1840s and 1850s. Abraham Bogardus (1822-1908) was a prominent daguerreotypist of his era creating over 200,000 in his career.
Among his works of art was this daguerreotype of William Cullen Bryant (circa 1877) from the collection of Ian Zwerdling. It is framed with Bryan's signature dated Novem 30, 1864.
