Please join Florence and Craig Westergard for Roslyn Landmark Society’s 2024 Fall Walking Tours on Saturday, September 21. This year’s fall tour route will begin at the George Allen Tenant House (Roslyn Landmark Society’s headquarters building) located at 36 Main Street in Roslyn.
The Westergards will lead the group to Old Northern Boulevard and observe several significant buildings along the way, including a row of 19th century vernacular houses that dot the boulevard and the original cobblestone roadway on Hicks Street.
The tour will then traverse the Roslyn Viaduct (William Cullen Bryant Bridge) to learn about its history and observe the Village of Roslyn from an exciting birds-eye perspective, while also getting a perfect view of the historic former AT&T telecommunications tower.
We will then proceed along Roslyn’s Waterfront Development Overlay District to observe and discuss the new promenade and other structures that make up this revitalized district.
This will be followed by an exploration of Roslyn’s commercial district to discuss its development, including a stop at the William Robeson (Roslyn) Grist Mill currently undergoing restoration by the Roslyn Landmark Society. The tour will conclude at the Ellen E. Ward Memorial Clock Tower, which will be open for interior viewing.
Each tour will last approximately 2 -2 ½ hours and involve lots of walking, so please be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes! Please be advised that the route will include crossing of the Roslyn Viaduct. While safe, you may find this challenging if you are afraid of heights.
Tickets are free for current 2024 Roslyn Landmark Society members and a suggested $25 for non-members (which will include a 2024 membership). Registration is limited to 25 attendees per session.
