The Planning Board of the Village of East Hills met today at 4:00 pm at public meeting via videoconference "to consider the approvals of the Findings on the Final Environmental Impact Statement and issue a decision on the proposed subdivision application" at 2A Melby Lane. The Planning Board rejected the applicant's four-lot subdivision application and voted to recommend a three-lot subdivision that would retain the historic Cross & Cross John Mackay III House. The subdivision would be subject to approval by the Village of East Hills Zoning Board.
The Roslyn Landmark Society applauds the action of the Village of East Hills Planning Board. We strongly oppose the demolition of the historic John Mackay III House and support a prudent and feasible alternatives that retain the building.
Howard Kroplick, president of the Roslyn Landmark Society stated, "I believe, with many others, that when you acquire something historic, whether it is a painting, an automobile or a home, you are a custodian of history with a duty to care for it, preserve it, protect it and never destroy it."
