Harbor Hill Elementary School
3 Glen Cove Road, East Hills
The Harbor Hill Elementary School was built in the early 1960s, opening on January 8, 1962 to address overcrowding at the other elementary schools operated by the Roslyn Union Free School District. Its cornerstone proudly states that construction started in 1960.
Despite the fact that three new elementary schools were built by the district in the 1950s (East Hills, Roslyn–Flower Hill, and Highland), the postwar baby boom and the migration from the city to the suburbs continued to present the Roslyn School District and many others on Long Island with capacity constraints.
When Harbor Hill first opened in 1962, it handled children in grades 1-6. Today (in the early 2020s), it handles children in grades 1-5.
The school underwent an extensive renovation project in the 2010s, which included the addition of a multipurpose room and the modernization of the main entrance.
