On July 25, 2023, the Roslyn Landmark Society, local officials and supporters celebrated the conclusion of Phase 1 of the restoration of the Roslyn Grist Mill. The mill was lowered onto its new foundation, supported by its restored historic timber frame.
Here are highlights from the presentation by Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, who was introduced by Howard Kroplick, co-president of the Roslyn Landmark Society.
Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman: "We have a great partnership here between government, the community and the private sector. As many of you know, Nassau County has invested about $2.5 million in this project and we are very proud of that investment. Because this is a way to secure a historical site that could not be replaced otherwise. Money cannot buy what you have here. It is an important archeological site. It is an important historical site. I am just so pleased as a student of history to be part of this."
