Archaeology is often used to determine the impacts of new development on historic sites. It is also used to document historic conditions prior to historic restoration projects. Using examples from Long Island (including the Roslyn Grist Mill), archaeologist Allison McGovern will share insights on how archaeology can yield information about construction, industry, and labor at mill sites, and what this research can reveal about community histories.
