Master carpenters and timber framers from Long Island, Massachusetts and Vermont returned to the Roslyn Grist Mill site last week for in situ (situated in the original place) repairs of the historic timber frame. Significant progress was made including:
- Complete repair of seven major tenons (the connecting piece into a mortise-see below.)
- Partial repair in progress of two tenons
- Complete repair of three shoulder
- Complete repair of one brace
- Complete removal of an unsalvageable upper tie beam to be replaced by a new beam later this year
Following the completion of in situ repairs in November 2022, the historic restored timber frame will be installed.
