The 98-acre Christopher Morley Park was developed by Nassau County in the 1960s on the land formerly consisting of the Nettie Ryan estate. Nassau County, which owns and maintains the park, purchased the property for $704,000, according to the County’s website. The purchase included the land consisting of the Links Golf Club.

The park is named after famed writer Christopher Morley, who was a longtime resident of the adjacent village, Roslyn Estates.

Christopher Morley Park also contains Morley’s Knothole writing cabin, which was moved into the park for its preservation and as a museum.

The Port Washington Water District maintains water wells within the park, which help supply the Greater Port Washington area with water. They were built here in order to mitigate the risk of salt water intrusion into Port Washington’s drinking water.
