Trustee and former Roslyn Landmark Society President Howard Kroplick recently came across a remarkable piece of Roslyn history while searching eBay: An original menu from the Roslyn Mill Tea House, operated by Miss Alice C. Titus out of the very building now undergoing restoration on Old Northern Boulevard.
The menu circa 1940, which advertises the establishment as "Historic, Built 1701," offers a full picture of a thriving mid-century destination: luncheons and suppers served daily for $1.50, Sunday dinners for $1.75, afternoon teas priced at 50 cents, bridge parties, a gift shop stocked with homemade candies, and a rotating daily tea menu.
It is a vivid reminder that the Roslyn Grist Mill has always been more than a building, and that for generations, it was a place where people gathered, and it will be again.
