Manhasset Motor Lodge (Holiday Inn Express – Roslyn–Manhasset)
1053 Northern Boulevard, Flower Hill
The Manhasset Motor Lodge was built in 1963, as the successor to an earlier, smaller travelers’ dwelling known as the Hillcrest Motel. It was constructed according to plans drawn by engineer Arthur Brodrick, containing 44 guest rooms, a restaurant, lounge, cocktail bar (known as the Tomahawk Lounge) on the ground floor, and a third-story rooftop deck at the front of the building. Parking was located underneath the hotel rooms, with the lobby on the first floor, adjacent to the parking lot entrance. The Tomahawk Lounge was located on the other side of the driveway and there was a meeting room on the second floor, above the restaurant, cocktail bar, and lounge.
The hotel would eventually become the Capri Roslyn Motor Inn and undergo a massive renovation and expansion project in the early 1980s; the project was designed by the Jamaica, Queens-based architectural firm, Rosenbaum & Rabinoff. The area housing the cocktail bar, restaurant, and lounge was reconfigured into a meeting room which could be split in two by use of a folding partition, and the rooftop deck on the third story and original meeting room on the second story were replaced with additional guest rooms. Several years later, the hotel would become the Gold Coast Inn and the guest room count would increase to 60.
In the early 2010s, the hotel underwent another major renovation and alteration project. The façade would again be altered and modernized, and the lobby and entrance would be completely reconstructed. Anthony S. DiProperzio was the architect. The guest rooms and public spaces would receive extensive renovations, and a fitness room and a breakfast room would be added on the first floor, along with ADA-accessible guest rooms. The early plans for the project called for the hotel to become a Comfort Inn upon completion of the renovations. These plans were changed shortly thereafter, however, with an announcement being made that it would become a Holiday Inn Express instead. The renovated hotel reopened as the Holiday Inn Express Roslyn–Manhasset in 2015.
The only hotel located within the Village of Flower Hill, the building is also one of the tallest habitable structures within the village outside of the St. Francis Hospital complex, with a roof height of approximately 35.5 feet.
