On Monday, February 10, 2024, the final new and restored rafters for the Roslyn Grist Mill were installed. The “ topping off” of the second floor was celebrated with a tradition conducted for hundreds of years in the history of timber framing. As noted by Supervisor Don Krug, the tradition involves placing an evergreen branch on the highest peak of the completed timber frame.
According to Fine Homebuilding Magazine, “the ritual serves two purposes. One pays homage to all the trees that went into the construction of the house, and to the many hands that built it. The other symbolizes the establishment of the house’s roots, which will nourish a long and prosperous life.”

Nice job and a wonderful tradition of honoring the trees and hands!
Do you need extra hands as the efforts move forward with continued construction?
Thanks
