Work is underway at the Roslyn Paper Mill in Gerry Park, where crews are repairing the steps and improving drainage around the building. The mill is a 1915 replica of the paper mill the Onderdonk family operated from 1773, built by Harold Godwin, William Cullen Bryant’s grandson, after the original came down in a winter storm in 1906. The current repairs build on the restoration the Town of North Hempstead began in 2023 under its capital plan, which covers the building’s roof and other important elements, and they should leave the site even more pleasant for everyone who walks through the park.
