The Cottage Hotel, known also as Speedling's, was built around 1865 on the corner of Garden Street and Railroad Avenue near the railroad station. The hotel offered beer and "pure liquors for medical use."
The building was demolished as part of the urban renewal project for Roslyn Heights in the late 1970s.
On November 16, 1907, guests were treated to a luncheon at the hotel celebrating the maiden run of the trolley to Mineola.
