In 1907, the New York and North Shore Traction Company installed trolley tracks that would change the way people traveled on Long Island. The trolley line ran from Roslyn to Mineola and was a popular mode of transportation for many years.
On November 16, 1907, guests were treated to a luncheon at the Cottage Hotel celebrating the maiden run of the trolley to Mineola.
In 1910, when the trolley line to Flushing was developed by the New York and North Shore Traction company, the West Turnpike Hill (now Old Northern Boulevard) was widened on its south side from Mineola Avenue to the Clock Tower, Clock Tower and a few of the houses on the south side of the Turnpike were relocated to the north.
The trolley line to Mineola ceased operation in 1920 but it remains an important part of Roslyn and Long Island history.
