A village school stood on this location at School Street (later part of Old Northern Boulevard) as early as 1790. This building was designed by architect Luther Birdsall for 300 students and replaced a school which burned on January 12, 1897. It was occupied in 1898 and had classes from grades one to high school.
On January 2, 1927, a defective furnace destroyed the building.
The architect for the building was Luther Birdsall who also designed the North Hempstead Town Hall in Manhasset.
