A Roslyn Grist Mill team was given a tour last week of the 18th century Van Wyck-Lefferts Tide Mill in Lloyd Harbor. The restoration of the mill was recently featured in a June 30, 2022 Newsday article "Wheels of Progress."
The Roslyn team was hosted by three directors of the non-profit Van Wyck-Lefferts Tide Mill Sancturary Inc. -Toby Kissam, Robert C. Hughes and Kurt Dietrick. The two non-profit organizations plan to continue to work together and share their restoration experiences. Thanks Toby, Robert and Kurt for an amazing day!
The Huntington Historical Society has resumed tours of the mill beginning summer of 2022 through October 25, 2022.

Curt Dietrick and Robert Hughes provide a history of the mill's water wheel. Hughes, also town historian of Huntington, is holding an 1882 photo of the mill. Similar to the Roslyn Grist Mill, the plan is to build a replica water wheel as part of a future restoration.

Thank you for posting these wonderful photos of a successful restoration. Its so interesting to see the
technology employed to grind grain back in the day.
What a treasure.
