Island Contracting, owned by Roslyn Landmark Society Co-President John Santos, began installing the new windows at the Mackay Estate Gate Lodge. Island Contracting is providing its services free of charge for the project.
Each gate lodge window has been hand-crafted by Northwood Sash and Joinery, a maker of custom, traditional wood windows and doors for historic properties. Testing and color-matching has been done to the original existing frames, which will allow for the new window color to match the originals. The installation of the windows precedes the exciting restoration of the original slate roof, and brings us one step closer in the restoration of this beautiful landmark.
The restoration project has been designed by Architect John Collins.

Leslie - thank you for your thoughts! Educating the public and the community on the importance of this structure is so important, and I'm certain this idea will be considered!
I’m very excited to see the transformed gate!
Thank you John!
Regarding the Mackay Mansion ….is there a possibility that a metal street sign historical marker with metal photo and a small amount of info ….can be erected on the corner(s) or on along Roslyn Rd or nearby streets ?
Richard, it's possible. It would likely require an approval from the Village of East Hills.
Do you think the owners of the hous(es) on the precise spot where the entrance to the MaKay mansion stood would agree to or object to the placement of an historical marker at the curb line in front of their homes?
