In December of 2021, Roslyn Landmark Society’s Co-President Howard Kroplick and his wife Rosalind initiated the Roslyn Grist Mill Million Dollar Match Challenge to raise funds for the mill’s ongoing restoration and support for the Roslyn Landmark Society. All 2022 grants, awards, membership fees, and sponsor contributions and grants made through June 30, 2022 were triple matched up to $1 million.
Over the last seven months, $636,924 was raised including from contributions from a record 388 members, sponsors and donors ($61,148) and grant awards from the Robert D.L. Gardiner Foundation ($420,776) and the Gerry Charitable Trust ($155,000). With the Kroplicks’ $1.0 million match, the total raised was over $1.64 million, surpassing the target goal of $1.5 million.
These additional monies will assist in completing the initial restoration phase by early 2023 including onsite repairs of the historic 1700s timber beams, reinstalling the restored timber frame onto the structure and lowering the building onto its’ new foundation.
“Roz and I are extremely proud of the wonderful support given to the Roslyn Landmark Society and pleased that the Roslyn Grist Mill Million Dollar Match Challenge was successfully met. Once fully restored, the building will provide historical and educational opportunities as well as advance economic investment and growth in the area,” said Kroplick. Roslyn Landmark Society’s Executive Director Jennifer Lister said “we’re grateful for the overwhelming support of this historic project. We’re especially thankful to the Robert D.L. Gardiner Foundation, Gerry Charitable Trust, and the Kroplick family who have answered the call to restore the mill and preserve an important piece of Long Island history.”
