Newsday reports that the Nassau County Museum of Art has announced a temporary closure through March 21 following a Feb. 9 water main break connected to its fire suppression sprinkler system during a period of extreme cold. The rupture caused significant flooding in a subbasement area, though no artwork was damaged. As a result of the system repairs and required safety inspections, fire marshals closed the mansion until the sprinkler submain can be fully replaced and brought back up to code. The incident prompted the early closure of the Museum’s major exhibition, “Real, Surreal, and Photoreal,” and the cancellation or relocation of several scheduled programs and events. While the main mansion remains closed, the outdoor sculpture park, arboretum, trails, and programs at the Manes Art Education Center continue to operate. We join the broader community in wishing the Museum a smooth and swift completion of repairs and look forward to its reopening later this month.
