The Roslyn Landmark Society is pleased to announce the addition of Noam Shemel to its Board of Trustees. Shemel was unanimously elected to the Board during the March 2025 board meeting.
Noam Shemel, principal of Kano Real Estate Investors, grew up in Great Neck and currently resides in Roslyn Harbor. He is a restaurant owner and real estate developer, possessing an extensive background in property management in historic districts in Manhattan. Howard Kroplick, co-president of of the Roslyn Landmark Society, said “I am very excited that Noam Shemel has joined the Board bringing expertise in real estate, architecture, and marketing. His experience and passion for restoring historic structures will be wonderful assets for our organization.”
Shemel recently partnered with Mark Spitzer, former Executive Chef of BONDST, one of the most successful Japanese restaurants in Manhattan, to open Okaru. Located in a historic building dating to 1890 on Old Northern Blvd. in downtown Roslyn, Okaru is a new modern Japanese restaurant featuring an impressive array of modern and traditional Japanese inspired dishes including sushi.
"We are excited to welcome Noam Shemel, our newest trustee to the Roslyn Landmark Society,” said Aviv Fine, Board trustee and treasurer. "He is a local resident and entrepreneur, with a zeal for historical preservation and restoration. He brings a dearth of real estate, construction, and financing experience. We look forward to working together with Noam to continue to restore and preserve Roslyn's beautiful historic buildings."
Noam Shemel is also a dedicated civic leader and passionate participant in local initiatives. In addition to his activities with the Roslyn Landmark Society, he serves on the Board of the Roslyn Chamber of Commerce as Vice-President of Communications, providing membership and marketing oversight.
“I’m honored to join the Roslyn Landmark Society as a trustee and contribute to preserving the rich architectural and cultural heritage of this remarkable community,” said Shemel. “As a Roslyn resident and a local restaurant owner, I’ve seen how preservation can enrich both the character and vitality of a community. I look forward to supporting the Society’s mission and assisting in local projects to protect and celebrate Roslyn’s unique legacy for generations to come.”
