Like all of Long Island and much of the tri-state area, the Roslyn Community felt the rumblings of a 4.8 magnitude earthquake at around 10:23 am. It is considered one of the largest earthquakes every to hit Long Island over the last 100 years.
The quake was centered near Lebanon, New Jersey around 65 miles away. Howard Kroplick, co-president of the Roslyn Landmark Society, contacted a friend who was working in a automobile restoration facility in Lebanon. She commented: "It felt like several trucks crashed into our building, lasting over 30 seconds. We all ran out of the building. Fortunately, there was no damage."
Don Krug of Cole Company inspected the Roslyn Grist Mill site and reported there were no structural changes.
