One often asked question asked about the Roslyn Grist Mill is what exactly did the mill grist? Trustee John Flynn, chairperson of the Roslyn Grist Mill Committee, went to visit the Bryant Library Local History Collection to research the answer. Among the treasures within the Collection are original records of the Roslyn Grist Mill from 1850 to 1877.
John Flynn: Last week I met with Carole Clarke, archivist of the Bryant Library Local History Collection, to look over a few of the journals of the mill in its possession ranging between 1850 and 1877. Each book of 500 pages lists every transaction that occurred at the mill. These random pages were from transactions on December 6, 1851 for your perusal.
John Flynn: The answer is simple - anything that could be milled was milled. My research was most definitely not complete or exhaustive, but I found at least this many things - oats, oat bran, corn, wheat, rice, buckwheat, and lentil (I think). Thank you Carole Clarke for your wonderful assistance.
