On Tuesday, November 18, the Roslyn Landmark Society welcomed more than 75 members, neighbors, and community leaders to its Annual Meeting, held at Okaru in the heart of Roslyn. The warm, intimate setting, generously hosted by Trustee Noam Shemel, provided the perfect backdrop for an evening centered on community, preservation, and partnership.
This year, the Society proudly honored Mayor Michael Koblenz of East Hills and Mayor John Durkin of Roslyn for their steadfast dedication to protecting and preserving the historic character of our shared communities. Their support has played a meaningful role in advancing restoration efforts throughout Roslyn, including the Roslyn Grist Mill, the Mackay Estate Gate Lodge, and the ongoing stewardship of Roslyn’s many landmarked structures and cultural resources. Although Mayor Durkin was unable to attend, the honor was graciously accepted by Roslyn’s Deputy Mayor Marshall Bernstein, on his behalf.
The event was also attended by Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Jennifer DeSena and newly elected Nassau County Legislator Samantha Goetz, underscoring the broad support for the Society’s work across all levels of local government.
One of the evening’s most inspiring moments was the announcement of a $250,000 leadership gift from Howard and Roz Kroplick to further the Society’s mission. Their extraordinary generosity strengthens the organization’s ability to carry forward critical restoration projects and expand its educational and public programming. The Society extends its deepest gratitude to the Kroplicks for their longtime commitment, stewardship, and vision.
Members in attendance also participated in the annual vote to reaffirm the Society’s leadership. All nominees were elected in the affirmative:
Howard Kroplick, Co-President — one-year term extension
John Santos, Co-President — one-year term extension
Rosanna Wolff, Secretary — two-year term
Jordan Fensterman, Co-Vice President — one-year term extension
Aviv Fine, Trustee — one-year term extension
John Flynn, Trustee — one-year term extension
Matthew Korn, Trustee — one-year term extension
Mitchell Schwartz, Trustee — one-year term extension
Craig Westergard, Trustee — one-year term extension
Throughout the evening, guests enjoyed an exceptional selection of dishes from Okaru’s menu, a highlight in itself, while connecting with friends, meeting new members, and celebrating the year’s accomplishments. The atmosphere reflected the heart of the Roslyn Landmark Society: a community united by passion, generosity, and a shared belief in the value of preserving our community's rich architectural and cultural heritage.
As we look ahead to 2026, the Roslyn Landmark Society extends sincere thanks to all who attended, supported, volunteered, and contributed to another successful year of preservation. The future of our work remains bright, strengthened by the continued partnership of our members, our neighbors, and our local leaders.
