During the 2023-2024 school year, Roslyn Landmark Society’s Gardiner Young Scholars intern, Isabella Santos, led the collaborative "Mackay Estate Gate Lodge Art Windows Project" by enlisting fellow Roslyn High School Art Club students to help create decorative coverings to adorn the Gate Lodge's window openings until its new windows can be installed.
On Thursday, June 13, 2024, the Roslyn Landmark Society held a "Window Art Unveiling Ceremony" at the Mackay Estate Gate Lodge on Harbor Hill Road in East Hills to celebrate the completion of this innovative student art project.
During the ceremony, Howard Kroplick, Co-President of the Roslyn Landmark Society, and Mayor Michael Koblenz of the Village of East Hills, spoke about the extraordinary history of the Mackay Estate Gate Lodge and the public-private partnership between the Roslyn Landmark Society and Village of East Hills to restore the magnificent structure.
Awards were also presented to Roslyn Landmark Society's 2023 Gardiner Young Scholar, Isabella Santos, and Roslyn High School Art Club scholarship recipient, Hannah Bailey, for their participation in the "Mackay Estate Gate Lodge Art Windows Project" and to recognize the significant roles they played in seeing the project through to successful completion.
The Roslyn Landmark Society would like to again express gratitude to Isabella and Hannah, as well as their fellow Roslyn High School Art Club students, for their work on the "Mackay Estate Gate Lodge Art Windows Project."
Special thanks also to all those community members who gathered with us yesterday to celebrate the students and their artwork, in addition to Roz Kroplick for photographing the event and John Santos, Co-President of the Roslyn Landmark Society, for art installation.

What a great idea to use student art in the windows at the Mackay Gate.
SO great to see the younger members of the community involved! People of all ages should know the history of their area and community , once recognized it can be appreciated more . As a long time historian appointed by my village decades ago and involved in the NY State historians it is with great pleasure to see this type of activity being promoted and recognized. This is not only Roslyn heritage but long island and state heritage being preserved.
