Many thanks to all those who attended the second lecture in Roslyn Landmark Society’s 2025 Speaker Series, “A Look Back at the Rich Equestrian History of Long Island in the 19th and 20th Centuries," on Sunday, March 25, 2025, at Roslyn's Trinity Episcopal Church.
Presenters Jerry and Rita Trapani delivered an insightful lecture about the equestrian history of Long Island, touching on elements such as the development of horse racing, Long Island's many significant riding clubs and stables, and the historical context and evolution of equestrian attire and equipment.
Jerry Trapani is a retired master farrier with over forty years of experience and Rita is a retired art teacher and artist. In addition to being the owners of Shadbelly Farm and founding members of the Paumanok Driving Club of Long Island, they have also shown their horses in many disciplines and worked closely with the Long Island Museum of American Art, History and Carriages in Stony Brook. Their lifetime of acquired equestrian knowledge and Long Island history was on full display on Sunday.
Special thanks also to Lisa Hendrickson and the dedicated staff of Trinity Episcopal Church for partnering with the Roslyn Landmark Society once again to bring our community members another wonderful program.
We would also like to extend our extreme gratitude once again to Florence Westergard for her assistance with this event.
Whether you joined us in person or virtually through Zoom, your presence and support are much appreciated. If you missed the event, be sure to watch the recording of the lecture that will be available on the Roslyn Landmark Society’s YouTube channel soon.
