Two weeks in August 2023 to be selected in consultation with the Friends of Cedarmere.
Arrangements: The Friends of Cedarmere will provide office space open to Bryant’s historic library and a stipend of $1,250. (No living space or meals will be provided.)
Applicants: Poets living on Long Island with a significant record of publication and experience leading poetry workshops should apply. Application Process: Applications will be accepted by email only and must include a resume, a writing sample of five to seven poems, and a statement of purpose indicating how the residence will be used. Applications as well as questions should be sent to Robert Sargent, Poetry Administrator ([email protected]) Judge: Applications will be judged by the distinguished poet, critic and translator Judith Baumel, Professor Emeritus of English and Founding Director of Creative Writing at Adelphi University. She has served as Fulbright Scholar to Italy, the president of the Association of Writers and Writing Programs and the director of The Poetry Society of America. Her books of poetry are: The Weight of Numbers, for which she received The Walt Whitman Prize Award of the Academy of American Poets, Now, The Kangaroo Girl, Passeggiate, and Thorny.
Deadline: The deadline for applications is May 1, 2023, with the winner announced on June 1.
Responsibilities: The successful applicant will give a public reading and offer a poetry writing workshop for local poets. The poet will write a report about the experience and will be required to indicate the William Cullen BryantFriends of Cedarmere 2023 Poet-in-Residence Award in any related publication.
