The Roslyn Grist Mill is one of 26 designated sites in this year's Long Island History Hunt, a region-wide adventure running May 23 through September 30 that challenges participants to visit historic locations tied to the American Revolution in celebration of the nation's 250th anniversary.
Sponsored by the Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation, the "Redcoats and Rebels" edition of the Hunt invites players to register at LIHistoryHunt.com, visit designated sites, and complete a selfie challenge for a chance to win prizes ranging from cash awards to the grand prize of $1,776, reserved for anyone who visits all 26 locations and earns the title of Revolutionary Trailblazer. Visitors who stop by the Grist Mill can also pick up a free collectible trading card featuring a key Long Island Revolutionary figure, specially created for the Hunt.
Built in the late 17th century and located just doors from where George Washington stopped for breakfast during his 1790 tour of Long Island, the Roslyn Grist Mill is a rare surviving piece of the world the Revolution was fought to protect, and we can think of no better year to come see it.
