A free walking tour of historic Trinity Episcopal Church will examine three distinctive Gilded Age personalities, Stanford White, the architect; Louis Comfort Tiffany, the stained-glass artist; and Katherine Duer Mackay, a vivacious and determined member of Gold Coast society as well as the Roslyn School Board. Join educator Jean Henning on April 14th at 3 p.m. for this in-depth look at Trinity Church, with its rich history that continues to inspire and captivate the Roslyn and Long Island community.
Trinity Episcopal Church, a landmark church in Roslyn, was built in 1906 by one of America’s most famous architects, Stanford White, who had a profound impact on the look of America in the “Gilded Age,” and features Tiffany stained-glass windows.
A walk through the interior and exterior of the church building and adjacent parish hall will reveal details that tell the story of the people who created “the most perfect piece of ecclesiastical architecture its size on Long Island,” according to The New York Times in 1914. The lecture will be led by Jean Henning, Education Director for the Nassau County Museum of Art for more than 25 years. She is also a long-time parishioner of Trinity Church.
