New sign at the newly power-washed Roslyn Landmark Society headquarters!
A newly designed sign has been generously donated by Drew Howland, owner of Sundog Signs of Carmel NY and cousin of Trustee John Flynn. We would also like to thank Karyn Reinert who designed the sign and Tom Barry, the village blacksmith at the East End Seaport Museum in Greenport for his help in trueing the curved metal piece that is part of the metal frame which originated from the original sign.
The original sign was up for many years until the sign rotted at the points of its suspension from the signpost. In addition to the deterioration of the sign, Trustee Dr. Robert Sargent noted that the founding date on the previous sign was incorrect. The Roslyn Landmark Society was founded in 1961 not 1962 which was on the old sign. The sign now has the correct founding date and a fresher look.
Co-President John Santos' Island Contracting company hung the sign and then power-washed the entire building at no cost.
Next time you are driving down Main Street make sure to take a look. We greatly appreciate the generous contributions from all involved.

It takes many concerned but enthusiastic hands to preserve our heritage, and this example shines and reflects that. Many will enjoy the sign and other accomplishments at preservation of the Roslyn Landmark Society but few will comment to that affect. As the Village Historian for the The Inc. Village of Floral Park, as well as the founder of the Floral Park Historical Society decades ago, we all find the time to do things if we feel that the deed will preserve what we had then and now for future generations . It is what the community of preservationists do, our admiration of history and the place we live will always be on going and never falter. I must add that both Howard Kroplick and I were born in the same year, collect, restore and use pre WWII era motor cars as well. My question is - was there something in the water the year we were born that makes us both so passionate about the history and preservation we love?
Walt, thanks for the kind words! 1949 was a very good year to be born.
Enjoy,
Howard
