Bill Stone, a descendant of the Jackson and Townsend families who are interred in the Townsend Cemetery, celebrated Earth Day at East Hills last week. For several months, Bill has been clearing his family's historic burying ground and its right-of -way of weeds and debris.
Bill also recognized the preservation efforts of the Town of North Hempstead, Village of East Hills, PSE&G, the Robert D.L. Gardiner Foundation, Stewart Preservation Services, Burying Ground Preservation Group and the Roslyn Landmark Society. He stated: "being there today and reviewing these pictures made me reflect on how far we have come and also how many have contributed to accomplish it."
In addition to Bill's efforts, PSE&G recently removed two dead trees in the cemetery.

Susan, thanks for the feedback! Howard Kroplick
Thank you for the updates. As a former resident of the area and a long time docent of the Starkins house in the past, I appreciate all the wonderful progress being made to preserve the history of Roslyn. That being said, it would be a good idea for someone to proof read the headings of articles in the newsletter. The word is spelled, "descendant" not "descendent", I am not intending to be picky but a fine establishment like the Roslyn Landmark Society deserves to have a good impression.
