Three Long Island historical societies have received the first non-matching grants awarded by the Robert D. L. Gardiner Foundation for the restoration of historic cemeteries: Roslyn Landmark Society (Townsend Cemetery, East Hills), The Davis Town Meeting House Society (Davis Cemetery, Coram), and Yaphank Historical Society (Hawkins Family Cemetery, Yaphank.)
Roslyn Landmark Society's $10,000 award will be utilized for a joint project with the Town of North Hempstead to restore the historic Townsend Cemetery in East Hills. More details on the project will be announced later this month.
