On Thursday, March 27, 2025, eighteen new teachers from various schools through the Roslyn School District participated in the Roslyn Landmark Society's 2nd annual New Teacher Bus Tour. Organized by Board trustee and co-vice president, Mitchell Schwartz, and Roslyn's Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education, Michael Goldspiel, the purpose of the tour is to provide knowledge of Roslyn's historic and cultural heritage to new educators to the area.
Roslyn Landmark Society Board Trustees Carol Clarke, Craig Westergard, and Ariel Morabito presented a fantastically informative tour as the group traveled through portions of the geographic area the Roslyn School District encompasses by school bus. Local historic areas visited on this year's route included the Roslyn Heights Historic District, Station Plaza and the Roslyn Heights urban renewal area, Roslyn Estates, Roslyn Viaduct, Roslyn Village Historic District, and Mackay Estate Gate Lodge/Country Estates at East Hills (formerly the Harbor Hill estate property).
In addition to some of the historic neighborhoods their students live in, the teachers were also introduced to local historic sites the Roslyn Landmark Society currently holds stewardship over, including the Roslyn Grist Mill, George Allen Tenant House, Van Nostrand-Starkins House, and the Mackay Estate Gate Lodge.
Thank you to all who participated in this wonderful adventure, including district bus driver, Ralph! We look forward to continuing this collaboration between the Roslyn Landmark Society and Roslyn School District with another fun and insightful tour in 2026.
