Daphne Hanjis, Roslyn Landmark Society Board Trustee and Education Committee member, hosted a rare weekend Open House at the 1680 Van Nostrand-Starkins House Historic Site on Sunday, June 1 as part of the Roslyn Landmark Society's pilot project to create greater public access to our local historic sites.
Built in 1680, the Van Nostrand-Starkins House is recognized as the oldest surviving house in Nassau County. Owned by the Village of Roslyn and restored by the Roslyn Landmark Society, the building has served the community as a historic house museum since 1977. It is regularly open to the public year round, Monday through Friday, from 10 AM - 2 PM.
Thank you to all those who took the opportunity to tour the site and learn about the lifestyles of some of the earliest Roslyn residents.
We will be hosting another Open House on Saturday, June 28 between 1 PM-4 PM. This event is free of charge and open to anyone interested in learning more about local history. We look forward to seeing you then!
