This past Saturday, September 23, 2024, members and friends of the Roslyn Landmark Society explored Roslyn during two exciting walking tours presented by long-time Roslyn Landmark Society Board Trustee and tour guide, Craig Westergard.
We would like to extend our gratitude to Westergard, who once again did not disappoint and led attendees on incredibly informative educational treks around the Village of Roslyn. He guided participants down Old Northern Boulevard to explore 19th century vernacular house and the original cobblestone roadway on Hicks Street, across the Roslyn Viaduct (William Cullen Bryant Bridge) for a exciting birds-eye view of the village, and along Roslyn’s Waterfront Development Overlay District, making a special stop at the Roslyn Grist Mill. The tours concluded with a visit to the Ellen E. Ward Memorial Clock Tower, where each group was given the rare opportunity to view the interior of the building and climb the tower's inner staircase.
Special thanks also to Florence Westergard, the Roslyn Landmark Society's volunteer multimedia expert, for lending her expertise and recording the tours for virtual viewing for all those unable to attend in person on Saturday. The video will be available on our website and YouTube channel soon, so stay tuned.
Thank you also to Howard Kroplick, co-president of the Roslyn Landmark Society, for joining the morning tour and providing the group with an update on the restoration of the Roslyn Grist Mill.
