“The Roslyn House,” a building located across from Roslyn High School on Roslyn Road, has passed through the hands of multiple owners over the years.
The Roslyn House is often known as the John Warmuth Saloon. The name “John Warmuth Saloon” comes from one of the former owners of the property, John H. Warmuth. Records show that Warmuth may have been a tenant on the property when it was part of Henry Western Eastman’s estate. It is unclear if it was Eastmen or Warmuth who built the Roslyn House in 1873.
Until the 18th Amendment leading to the Prohibition era was passed, the building was used as a saloon and a small hotel. Under the Breen family's ownership, the Roslyn House became a shop for sweet treats like ice cream. The top floor of the building was often rented as residential space in the past.
The building was renovated from October 20th, 1983 to December 13th, 1984. After its renewal period, it was sold to be used as a firm office under Barry Wolf, President of the Audited Advertising Distributors. The Roslyn House is now used with Built by Beer, a development company that builds luxury spaces on Long Island.
