The Roslyn Landmark Society is thankful for three successful 2023's Historic House VIP Receptions!
Across three weekends in June, exclusive house tours were arranged for Roslyn Landmark Society members and supporters. Guests were provided private tours to three of Long Island's most extraordinary houses: the Thomas Clapham House (Wenlo) in Roslyn Harbor; the John Mackay III House (Happy House) in Roslyn; and lastly the Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney Studio in Old Westbury. Roslyn Landmark Society trustee, John Flynn, described the three events as “a proud accomplishment for the Society as well as the greater Roslyn community.”
Over a hundred VIPs supported the events, including Legislator Delia DeRiggi Whitton who has been dedicated to the Roslyn Grist Mill project from the beginning and has assisted with Nassau County funding; Dr. Robert Mackay a trustee of the Gerry Charitable Trust and strong supporter of the Roslyn Landmark Society; Kathryn Curran, Executive Director of the Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation who generously help fund the Roslyn Grist Mill project; Alexandra Wolfe, Executive Director of Preservation Long Island who played a role in saving the John Mackay III House from demolition in 2017; Janet Schecter who provided a generous contribution in honor of her father, the long-time Village of Roslyn Judge Nathan Stern; Howard and Jordan Fensterman of Abrams Fensterman, LLP who serve as an advocate and trustee for the Society; Juliana Terian, CEO of Rallye Motors, who is a sponsor of the Roslyn Landmark Society and the Roslyn Grist Mill project; Bill Stone who is a descendant of the Jackson and Townsend families who are interred in the Townsend Cemetery; Richard Handler of The Law Offices of Richard G. Handler who works tirelessly for the Society and the Roslyn Grist Mill project; and Howard and Roz Kroplick whose altruism serves as an inpiration for all Roslyn residents.
Very special thanks to the gracious homeowners who opened their houses and provided enlightening tours. Thank you Isaac and Frieda Schlesinger, Daphne and Demitri Hanjis, and John LeBoutillier for stewarding Roslyn’s rich history.
