The Roslyn Landmark Society began repairs on the Van Nostrand-Starkins House on September 3, 2024. Hope Home Improvements is restoring the staircase at the front of the house as well as the doors leading to the basement and other important exterior repairs. All elements will be restored to their original appearance.
Located at 221 Main Street in Roslyn and restored by the Roslyn Landmark Society in the 1970s, the Van Nostrand-Starkins House was built in 1680 and is the oldest house in Nassau County. It has served as a historic house museum since 1977.
Due to exposure to the elements and normal wear and tear, portions of the Van Nostrand-Starkins House have deteriorated over the years. To maintain proper stewardship over this historic structure, the Roslyn Landmark Society is in the process of identifying and making any needed repairs to ensure the house's ongoing preservation and its continued accessibility to the public.

Absolutely excellent job of stabilization and restoration for future generations to appreciate and other townships in Suffolk County to emulate. A real jewel for Nassau County and Long Island. Bravo, Roslyn Landmark Society!
