On October 8, the Roslyn Landmark Society welcomed Lauren Brincat, Curator at Preservation Long Island, and Steven Baltsas, Preservation Long Island’s curatorial fellow from Winterthur, to the Bryant Library for an evening on the vernacular furniture of Long Island. Their talk drew on research for Preservation Long Island’s exhibition Wood and Water: Furniture on Long Island, 1660–1860. That research included a visit to the Van Nostrand-Starkins House to study the Society’s own collection, and pieces from the house, including its kas, were among those discussed.
The audience was small and engaged, and every feedback form we collected was positive. We’re grateful to Lauren and Steven for sharing their work, and we look forward to continuing our partnership with Preservation Long Island in the year ahead.
This program was made possible in part by a grant from The Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation as part of the Society’s 250th commemoration programming.
