For several years in the early 2000s I served as a docent for this house. That was the time when we were open for tours every weekend I lived in Roslyn at the time. For many years, the little history that I wrote from research I did on the house was used at the walking tours. It is a house with a fascinating history, and I’m thrilled to hear that it will continue to educate visitors for a long time

Mitchell Schwartz’ report on the LIE is wonderful. Very well researched and informative. Thanks so much for loving this special place as much as I do.

The colorful lion head swags with bunches of fruits and leaves that flank the house's main entrance were made by the Moravian Pottery and Tile Works in Doylestown, PA, in 1916. The Library fireplace was also made by the Moravian Pottery and Tile Works at the same time.

Good morning, we did extensive work to our home and then applied for tax break being we are in the historic district but to our surprise we were denied the tax break. It was explained to us that our historic district is not state or federally recognized and therefore not entitled to any tax exemption.

Im presently living in Otisville NY but I grew up in Roslyn and worked for both the Village of Roslyn and Roslyn Public Schools and have been told that the clock at the clock tower keeps time but no longer chimes on the hour could you please let me know why this is so the sound of the clock was beautiful

The decorative window coverings add color to this example of a bygone era. Probably, more color than it will ever see again once it is restored. I wonder how many of the Roslyn High School student artists had taken a good look at the building on the way to school before the lot was cleaned up last year. People tend to look past sad looking structures, as if hoping they would disappear. Thank goodness it never looked like a total eyesore, just a place in need of attention.

My newly arrived Ukrainian grandfather worked on the estate in the 1910s before moving the family to Boston, circa 1920. His five children; three born on the estate; lived their life in Massachusetts, and died here, knowing little about Harbor Hill. It pains me to be learning about it now, but to have no one from the first American born generation to share it with.

I cannot wait to visit Roslyn and walk the Harbor Hill site to get a feel for the lay of the land. To maybe stick a shovel in the ground at a future Roslyn Landmarks Society volunteer cleanup. The first Romanko ancestor to break ground there in over a century.

SO great to see the younger members of the community involved! People of all ages should know the history of their area and community , once recognized it can be appreciated more . As a long time historian appointed by my village decades ago and involved in the NY State historians it is with great pleasure to see this type of activity being promoted and recognized. This is not only Roslyn heritage but long island and state heritage being preserved.
