Take it down. It's a eyesore and not natural to the landscape, just because something has lasted for so long doesn't mean it automatically has significance, it's actually quite scary and ominous looking especially at dusk.
The small neighborhood below this construction is now going to experience an amount of traffic and people which is going to
be overwhelming. Having the high school on Roslyn Road above it already brings a lot of bus and vehicle congestion during the school year plus
What a treat to see the 1926 images of Homewood. I was facilities manager there and lived on the property over 35 years! Must have plowed that drive a thousand times. A few points: If one looks closely at the house in 1926, the wing to the left has not yet been built. That along with some other additions were added later. (Also noted on the blueprints.) I do believe the house was built for W.P. Willetts from the start. (Again noted on 1923 blueprints.) More research is needed on Charles Willis as original owner. Going out on a limb here, but I think he was actually the builder. Lastly, just a tidbit. Verizon destroyed the right brick column when installing FIOS. Obviously has since been reconstructed! Again, thanks for the photos. After Sandy I had doubts if the camp would reopen that year!
Hi Harrison, please reach out. I have an art diary by Frances Bryant, we lived next door and we purchased the property there were several houses (Chicken Coop, Carriage House, etc.) Property boarded on the Frick Estate.
Thank you for the updates. As a former resident of the area and a long time docent of the Starkins house in the past, I appreciate all the wonderful progress being made to preserve the history of Roslyn. That being said, it would be a good idea for someone to proof read the headings of articles in the newsletter. The word is spelled, "descendant" not "descendent", I am not intending to be picky but a fine establishment like the Roslyn Landmark Society deserves to have a good impression.
So pleased that this beautiful gate is being restored!! Lived there for 25 years and it was always welcoming to see this gate upon entering Country Estates
